The "Bierhaus En d'r Salzgass" is a traditional brewhouse where traditional local beers and food are served.

It is another beautiful piece of the colorful mosaic of the beer houses & breweries of Cologne. Quite spacious, seats and booths are places all over various levels and decorated rustically with lots of dark wood and polished light tabletops. The famous “Päffgen Kölsch” as well as many other drinks with and without alcohol are served in this historical place, which has already been home to breweries and ale houses in the Middle Ages.

The passage from “Heumarkt” to the Banks of the Rhine lead through the “Salzgasse” – just like it has been for centuries! During the Middle Ages, fish were salted here, right before they have been sold on the fish market. Next door, at the “Lintgasse”, fish baskets were weaved while the herring barrels were made for salted herrings around the corner at “Unter Käster”. So, salt is playing a major role in this street!

And the fact that salt makes you thirsty is nothing new, which is why a brewery has been part of this street for ages and centuries!
