Brauerei Zum Schiffchen

At "Schiffchen" more than 380 years of Düsseldorf's history are reflected. It survived long and never forgotten personalitites, rich and old, bors and characters, it maneuvered itself through wars and it did not go down in the storms of the new era - according to the inscription on the old truss.

"This is the eternal new strength of the homeland, which always creates New out of the Old."

Located in the heart of the old town the restaurant Brewery "Zum Schiffchen" is the oldest restaurant in Düsseldorf. Locals and visitors call it the typcial Düsseldorfer Restaurant. The atmosphere, decoration and menu ensure this authenticity, as well as the blue apron wearing "Köbesse" - waiters - who "celebrate" their service with Rhenish humour and typcial local dialect to the delight of guests from all over the world.

The restaurant was first mentioned in 1628 and we are proud to have hosted important historic characters like Napoleon. Altough today it is not the French cuisine or customs which make the restaurant so famous, it is the rustic atmosphere and joyfullness.

The restaurant has 420 seasts and is divided into cosy rooms, which allow compartmentation without seclusion - forming the ideal premises to host groups and indiviual guests. In the beer garden there are additional 140 seats.

Our menu is substantial. We place special emphasis on local cuisine from Düsseldorf and the surrounding area, but we also serve German traditional fare and if desired some gourmet meals. Rolf Klostermeier - innkeeper with heart and soul - takes care of the wellbeing of his guests. There are not many other restaurants in Düsseldorf which are mentioned and recommended in travel reports as often as the "Schiffchen".
